Maintenance Tech - Full-time - (not licensed)

About the role

Full‑time position, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday‑Friday with a rotating on‑call schedule for weeknights, weekends and holidays. SMP Health – Ave Maria comprises a 100‑bed long‑term care facility, a 58‑unit assisted living facility and a 4‑unit apartment complex. The Maintenance Technician joins the maintenance team and must have good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heating and cooling systems and other facility equipment.
• Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and grounds maintenance.
• Perform additional environmental services tasks as needed.
• Prioritize and complete work orders.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Keep shop areas clean, safe and orderly; remove garbage from building and grounds.
• Package and remove medical waste from the facility.
• Maintain facility grounds: mow and fertilize lawn, snow removal, upkeep of trees, shrubs and flowers.
• Operate lawn mowers, tractors, chain saw, edger and other power tools associated with grounds work.
• May supervise seasonal/temporary employees.
• Operate and maintain heating and cooling equipment (boiler), keep equipment in good repair and boiler room neat and clean.
• Receive freight and distribute supplies.
• Attend and actively participate in work meetings, in‑services and committees as directed.
• Perform safety and infection control policies and procedures, including proper hand hygiene at all times.
• Understand and follow procedures related to emergencies, resident safety, emergency preparedness, fire, severe weather, evacuation, universal precautions, infection control, sanitation and safe operation of any equipment used.

Schedule

Standard shift: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday, plus a rotating on‑call requirement for weeknights, weekends and holidays.

Skills / Qualifications

• Good communication skills.

• Knowledge of safety and infection control practices.
• Proficiency operating lawn mowers, tractors, chain saw, edger and other power tools.
• Familiarity with heating/cooling systems and boiler operation.
