About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our dynamic team at Petmate. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing equipment repairs and preventative inspections on equipment as per procedures in a safe and professional manner as directed. The technician conducts diagnosis and identification of maintenance issues, including equipment repairs with high levels of complexity, on site or in a maintenance workshop. This level of technician will account for how modification of one element will have consequences on general operation, completes necessary paperwork accurately and on time, and may be required to work overtime and weekends (Saturday/Sunday).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead technician in diagnosing machine malfunctions and operating problems and help fellow technicians learn key attributes to diagnostics.
  • Define and execute preventative maintenance plans on more complex pieces of equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, sketches, engineering specifications, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Lead project teams related to installation of new machine tools or the relocation of existing machines; train other team members on more complex maintenance processes.
  • Oversee parameter control on equipment in operation with measuring tools integrated to the equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust equipment settings (for example pulley or motor alignment), maintain breaking and safety device controls (sensors and circuit breakers), and conduct standard exchange replacement of more complex technology (controller cards, cylinders, pumps, engines, gears, bearings, etc.).
  • Perform run-off surface descaling (cooling towers, chillers), support chiller and tower maintenance, air compressors, loaders, material handling equipment, and thermolator controls.
  • Take the lead role in rebuilding and/or repairing equipment to ensure optimal uptime of a wide variety of machines.
  • Support a culture of preventative maintenance by scheduling and proactively managing maintenance activities within CMMS.
  • Contribute guidance and mentorship to the larger Maintenance team in work-related events at staff meetings.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude to learn electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and associated equipment.
  • Experience reading a voltage meter and motor control experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA worksite and personal safety requirements.
  • Action and goal-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude with experience in maintenance/repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and associated equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic functions on a computer.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an industrial trade school is highly preferred.
  • At least five years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment or relevant training from trade school or on-the-job training.
  • Maintenance experience within the plastics industry.

Physical demands

The employee is frequently required to stand and walk; occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

Work environment

Our facility operates with machinery that can be loud and requires ear protection and eye protection. The manufacturing environment can be fast-paced and physically demanding, with exposure to various materials and processes that may result in a dirty workspace.
