Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform light repair and maintenance work on Class 8 tractors and trailers, including but not limited to: lights, mudflaps, hoses, minor mechanical adjustments, and DOT inspections.
- Respond to field service needs and driver breakdowns within assigned region, ensuring timely and safe resolution.
- Conduct equipment condition assessments and determine appropriate repair paths (mobile repair vs. shop/vendor).
- Initiate service and repair work by diagnosing issues, developing repair estimates, verifying warranty/service coverage, and writing repair orders (ROs).
- Maintain company-provided tools, truck, and equipment in clean, safe operating condition.
- Serve as a mobile communicator and liaison between drivers, maintenance vendors, dispatch, and internal departments.
- Ensure driver concerns, equipment issues, and safety needs are accurately captured and communicated to vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Follow up with repair shops and vendors to verify recommended services are completed correctly and documented.
- Support parts procurement as needed, including sourcing, ordering, and tracking materials.
- Prepare, coordinate, and maintain licensing, permitting, and compliance documentation for assigned equipment.
- Ensure timely submission of invoices and repair documentation to Accounts Payable.
- Travel extensively by road (and occasionally by air) to support fleet operations across assigned regions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet safety, uptime, and operational needs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Class 8 truck and trailer mechanical experience or working knowledge required.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) required.
- Must have and maintain a valid in-state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and perform light repairs safely and effectively.
- 2+ years of diesel, tractor/trailer, or fleet maintenance experience.
- Ability to learn and utilize maintenance management and service database systems.
- Basic understanding of DOT regulations and FMCSA compliance standards.
- Prior field service or mobile maintenance experience strongly preferred.
