About the role

Responsible for the Spindletop fleet of vehicles. Performs moderate repairs and maintenance for Spindletop vehicles. Serves as backup and on-call personnel for advanced skilled maintenance and repair work for all Spindletop buildings and residential homes in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to assigned Center vehicles and facilities as needed.
  • Covers vehicle maintenance activities such as oil changes, tire service, battery replacements, wiper blade replacement, vehicle inspections, repair scheduling, and ensures Center vehicles are clean, operational, and available for staff use.
  • Maintains building systems, equipment, and grounds.
  • Performs Motor Pool responsibilities including preventative maintenance of Center vehicles, scheduling oil changes and repairs, coordinating vehicle inspections, replacing batteries and wiper blades as needed, monitoring vehicle condition, and ensuring vehicles are clean, safe, and operational.
  • Maintains vehicle maintenance records and coordinates service schedules to minimize downtime and ensure fleet readiness.
  • Performs maintenance and repair work for Spindletop facilities including building, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, mechanical systems, carpentry, and painting as assigned by work orders.
  • If directed by supervisor, contacts outside contractors for repairs or maintenance.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Ensures proper tools are available prior to performing each assigned task to promote efficiency.
  • Inspects Center vehicles, equipment, and buildings to identify maintenance needs and ensure safe operation.
  • Moves furniture and equipment.
  • Avoids damage to furniture or equipment during moving or installation.
  • Drives safely at all times resulting in no at-fault accidents or safety violations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by training in related building trades.
  • Two years' experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Two years’ experience in repair of buildings and in the operation and maintenance of electrical, air conditioning and mechanical equipment.

Skills

  • Knowledgeable about all areas of vehicle repairs and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledgeable about all areas of building repairs and maintenance procedures.
  • Good driving skills.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to write notes, memos, letters, various complex reports and miscellaneous other documents with acceptable spelling and grammar.

Other Requirements or Conditions

  • Current State of Texas Driver License or equivalent license from another state.
  • Liability insurance required if operating personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business.
  • Completes all training requirements in month in which they are due.
  • Available to provide on-call duties as required.
  • Availability of a personal vehicle for business use may be required.
  • Work will take place within office and community settings.
  • Submits to and passes a pre-employment drug test.
  • Successfully passes all background screens as required by the state.
  • Ability to input data into computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, produce reports.
  • Physically able to complete work orders to include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods of time if required.
