MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST ii

Duties

• Interpret distribution and collection system maps to locate sewer lines, water lines, valves and hydrants, and pump and lift stations.
• Operate various equipment such as wash unit, large dump truck, hydro-vac, tapping machines, water cutter, mini-dump truck, and TV truck.
• Read basic schematic drawings and perform flow/pressure tests on fire hydrants.
• Troubleshoot and perform quality checks for finished work.
• Complete work orders and basic forms.
• Requisition parts and supplies.
• Interact with customers.
• Exercise some supervisory functions.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on water meters and meter boxes.
• Install, repair, or replace functional parts and components on water meters.
• Read meters using a hand-held processor and update work orders using laptop workbooks.
• Oversee the flushing and sampling of source water and potable water for compliance monitoring or customer complaints.
• Perform field water analysis as needed, perform customer relations and notification site visits.

Minimum Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED.
• A valid State Vehicle Operator's License with a class applicable to the assigned position.
• Three years experience as a Maintenance Specialist I or related field.
• For Lucas Plant assignment, hold or be able to obtain Class 2 Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
• Lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently, and 100 pounds occasionally.
