Maintenance Specialist I (74NE)
Position Summary
The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for installing steel and polyethylene (PE) mains, fabricating metering facilities, and overseeing related construction. This role requires a thorough understanding of natural gas principles and distribution systems to ensure the safe delivery of natural gas from town border stations to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, construction, and emergency activities to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the natural gas distribution system.
- Assignments may involve maintenance, repair, construction, or a combination of these tasks as directed.
- Inspect pipeline and structural welding required for construction and maintenance of Company facilities including the installation, operation and maintenance of distribution and transmission facilities.
- Proficient operations of equipment and tools associated with everyday work.
- Document pipeline safety maintenance activities.
- Act as primary operator of backhoe, excavator, and other large equipment.
- Achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.
- Provide oversight and inspection to ensure asset protection and compliance with company procedures of excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
- Coordinate local Damage Prevention activities.
- Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenant, public official, emergency official and local organization (i.e. One-Call, Pipeline Group, Soil Conservation, etc.) meetings.
- Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.).
- Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.
- Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Participate in the development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.
- Work from written and verbal instructions.
- Work from a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required job schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Interface directly with customers professionally providing a high degree of customer satisfaction.
What Is Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- CDL License within 180 days of hire
- Applicable company fusion certifications
- Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems
- Ability to achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required job schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
- Possess basic computer and math skills
- Ability to interface directly with customers professionally providing a high degree of customer satisfaction
What Is Desired
- Secondary education or equivalent experience
- Maintenance Specialist Experience required
- Time in position before advancement based on successful demonstration of KSAs
- Level 1 (entry): 0 years 9 months / 0.75 years
- Level 2: 9 months / 0.75 years 12 months / 1 year
- Level 3: 21 months / 1.75 years 12 months / 1 year
- Level 4: 33 months / 2.75 years 24 months / 1 year
- Level 5 (top): 57 months / 4.75 years n/a - indefinite
- Basic mechanical and construction skills
- Knowledge, experience, and ability to work within safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems
- General knowledge of regulatory and relief valves found on project lines, main lines, and general meter sets
- Knowledge of company policies and practices, and regulatory and tariff requirements desirable
