About the role
The Maintenance Specialist supports the Director of Maintenance in ensuring consistent maintenance operations, compliance, and safety standards across the company. This position serves as an on-site resource to fill in for community-level Maintenance Directors during vacancies, absences, or transitions. The Maintenance Specialist also provides hands-on training, onboarding, and mentorship to community maintenance teams to ensure adherence to company standards and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Maintenance with facility audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Support the implementation of corporate maintenance policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance programs at the community level.
- Temporarily assume the role of Maintenance Director at a community during vacancies, leaves of absence, or staffing transitions to ensure operational continuity.
- Provide training, mentoring, and onboarding support to new community-level Maintenance Directors and maintenance staff.
- Collaborate with community Executive Directors and staff to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations.
- Monitor and report on maintenance activities, safety compliance, and adherence to company standards.
- Support project coordination, including vendor oversight and small-scale renovations or equipment replacements as assigned.
- Act as a field resource to identify operational challenges, share best practices, and recommend improvements to the Director of Maintenance.
- Participate in emergency response efforts and assist with resolving urgent maintenance or facility-related issues.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in maintenance, plant operations, or facilities management (healthcare, hospitality, or senior living preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, etc.).
- Experience in training, mentoring, or leading small teams preferred.
- Ability to travel frequently and work on-site at different community locations.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or safety preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to be on-call for any onsite or remote emergencies.
- Strong hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly and step into leadership roles at the community level.
- Knowledge of Title 22, OSHA, life safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Effective communication, training, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems (preferred).
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Advanced understanding of facilities planning, preventive maintenance, and asset management.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, climb stairs, and grasp objects.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to traverse and work in facilities of varying size and condition, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
Pay
$90,000-110,000/year
