Description
Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities; provides preventative maintenance; constructs and installs building fixtures; plans projects; coordinates and receives quotes from tradesmen and supervise their work for compliance and quality; maintains and constructs building systems to include HVAC, plumbing and electrical; performs other duties as assigned.
- Examples of Duties
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, HVAC systems, sewers, and infrastructure;
- Installs and maintains building signs.
- Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities.
- Provides preventative maintenance on building systems.
- Constructs and installs building fixtures such as cabinets, furniture, doors, and walls.
- Plans maintenance projects.
- Requests, supervises, and checks quality of work performed by HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other tradesmen.
- Gets quotes and bids for materials and services.
- Maintains and constructs building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
- Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles, tools and equipment;
- Cleans and performs routine maintenance work on tools and equipment.
- Purchases and replaces ballasts and light fixtures; converts some to LED type fixtures.
- Affords assistance in ordering facility maintenance equipment and supplies as assigned.
- Completes required daily logs, work orders and receipts.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent, and two years of building maintenance and construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid Texas Driver's License.
- A voucher of completion from the Career Training Program Construction and Trades course work in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, maintenance technician, HVAC or building assessment will be required within six months.
- A certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in carpentry, electrical, plumbing or painting is preferred.
- To pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment;
- Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
