About the role
The Maintenance Planner supports the development of a reliability-based maintenance strategy, focusing on preventive and predictive maintenance. Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, this role builds a reliable CMMS system and maintenance team, performing preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks independently and collaboratively with plant personnel.
Operating budget: $960k shared; Capital expenditures: $400k shared.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate equipment downtime and maintenance activities with production, keeping them informed on job progress.
- Develop schedules for maintenance crews to service plant equipment, minimizing downtime.
- Maximize manpower and equipment utilization through coordination with operating and maintenance areas.
- Control costs and overtime to align with budget.
- Interact with vendors for support and information as required.
- Utilize the CMMS system (TabWare) to open/close work orders, track costs, document spare parts, create standard and PM jobs, and record repair details (date, hours, nature of repairs).
- Monitor the PM backlog report to ensure adherence to established schedules.
- Set up and maintain plant equipment within the CMMS entity structure.
- Monitor and control material requisitions for tools, parts, and equipment to ensure compliance with company policies and proper cost center charging.
- Purchase stock items through the Warehouse as needed.
- Coordinate, plan, schedule, document, and report on major plant turnaround activities to maximize labor, material, and equipment utilization.
- Manage equipment and repair parts data entry, maintaining equipment information and repair files.
- Participate in plant safety, health, and environmental programs.
Requirements
- Ability to build and use a maintenance library for repairs.
- Demonstrated logical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including detailed repair reports.
- Computer proficiency: Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and ability to learn maintenance software for data input and parts research.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and/or a technical trade degree desired; preference for a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Related work experience and education may substitute for a four-year degree.
- One year of experience as a maintenance supervisor, planner, or coordinator is helpful.
- Total technical experience: 0–5 years post-degree.
- Experience in mineral processing facilities is an asset.

This role involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, outdoor weather, and process materials.
