About the Role

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is expanding their team and hiring a Maintenance & Operations Technician at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. This full-time position will address facility work orders, perform technical repairs, routine maintenance, and provide general facility support to all employees at the recreation center. This includes coordinating set-up and breakdown during facility events and programs, maintenance and upkeep of interior and exterior grounds, and providing assistance during facility programs and events. The incumbent may also be requested to address maintenance needs at other recreation facilities throughout Mecklenburg County.

This position will alternate between daytime and evening shifts, which will rotate monthly, and can expect to work every other Saturday. By applying to this position, you are eligible to be considered for similar roles at other locations should they become available.

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, breakdown, and cleaning during programs, rentals, and events
  • Provide customer service during programs, special events, and facility operating hours
  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services for the facility, including restrooms, rental facilities, and outdoor amenities
  • Remove limbs and debris; blow leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clear mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms
  • Mow and trim ballfields; remove trash in exterior trash receptacles
  • Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry, and other construction tasks
  • Layout measurements and line ballfields; assist in performing field maintenance
  • Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutters, edgers, clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuums, and other maintenance equipment
  • Open gates and remove trash
  • Assist repair technicians in duties
  • Operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers, and dump trucks
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, including community service workers, volunteers, and/or part-timers
  • Receive, sort, and package materials
  • Fill out daily work sheets and other required forms

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License with County Driving Privileges
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Facility maintenance experience
  • Groundskeeping/landscaping experience

    • Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction

    • Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
    • Tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in maintenance activities
    • Operation of light trucks, small tractors, mowers, and similar automotive equipment

Schedule
