Maintenance Operator

Member of a rotating shift working under the direction of a Plant Supervisor.

About the role

Responsible for performing operating functions which includes monitoring and operating power plant equipment, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping equipment, isolating and safety tagging equipment for maintenance activities, and monitoring water chemistry. Performs routine operator rounds and lubrication to plant rotating equipment as required. Familiar with plant environmental procedures and ensures units operate within specifications. Operates and maintains units while maintaining a high level of safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost.

Works through an Operational Skills Development Plan to gain specific knowledge of plant equipment and progress through Maintenance Operator levels up to Operations Technician, Plant Technician (Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Skills), or Plant Technician (Mechanical Skills).

Responsibilities

• Perform operating functions including continuous monitoring of equipment, operating valves, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping equipment, isolating and restoring equipment for maintenance following Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, and monitoring boiler water chemistry.
• Use elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in generating plants.
• Troubleshoot, identify, and make repairs to plant equipment, including performing preventative maintenance tasks.
• Apply knowledge and experience with principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems.
• Comply with environmental rules and regulations.
• Follow safety policies, practices, and procedures.
• Participate in the Monthly Safety Meeting; may join the Safety Committee or Awareness Team.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities including simple electrical, instrument, and mechanical work/inspection and repair.
• Interface and communicate with internal and external organizations/customers (dispatchers, directors, contractors, etc.).
• During unit outages or emergent work, step up to Temporary Supervisor or Contract Administrator roles with responsibility for other employees and/or contractors to provide contractor management, quality control, cost management, and schedule management.
• Work a rotating shift and overtime when required due to unexpected circumstances.
• Be willing and able to work under unusual as well as normal working conditions pertaining to a power plant environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma (required).
• Process Technology/Instrumentation college degree or equivalent work experience (desired).
• 0–2 years of experience in an operations or similar field, or entry-level with a background in Process Technology or Instrumentation.
• Knowledge of elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants.
• Knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems.
• Ability to lift 100 lbs and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders.
• Team-oriented and self-motivated with the initiative to perform tasks independently and provide timely, concise feedback upon request.
• Possess a winning attitude to achieve departmental, plant, and corporate goals.
• Basic computer knowledge to use Entergy Fossil Applications: Time and Labor (Electronic Timesheet Application) and AIMM (Maintenance Management System).
• Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test (required).

Desired Qualifications

• Power plant and/or maintenance experience.
• Equipment operation experience.

Pay

Minimum Salary: $34.14/hour
Maximum Salary: $46.98/hour

Schedule

• Rotating shift.
• Overtime required at times for shift coverage due to unexpected circumstances.
• Travel up to 25%.
