Maintenance Millwright

About the role

Smurfit Westrock is a leader in sustainable packaging, dedicated to creating efficient and scalable paper and packaging solutions. West Point Mill is seeking an hourly Mechanical Maintenance professional to provide primary millwright skills for the mill.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all department safety programs.
• Work in a multi‑craft role and contribute to team‑based results.
• Apply knowledge of equipment lubrication types and applications.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues effectively.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and drawings.
• Document repairs and inspections accurately.
• Use computer systems to look up bill of materials, enter work results, and complete work orders.
• Operate rigging equipment and employ proper rigging techniques.
• Measure, lay out, and fabricate repair parts as needed.

Requirements

Class 1 Helper

• Five years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman mechanic level, or a two‑year technical degree in mechanical technology, or four years of relevant technical military experience.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Willingness to work shift schedules.

Class A Journeyman

• Ten years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman mechanic or electrician/instrumentation level, or five years of relevant industrial or military experience plus a two‑year technical degree.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Willingness to work shift schedules.

Compensation & Career Growth

• Class 1 Helper: $33.79 /hour.
• Promotion to Class C possible within 9‑13 months based on performance – $35.89 /hour.
• Eligibility for Class B after 6 months – $37.42 /hour.
• Promotion to Class A after 12 months – $42.62 /hour.
• Final step to Class AAA – $45.86 /hour, based on tenure and qualifications.
• Total progression time from Class 1 Helper to Class A: 2.25‑2.5 years (27‑31 months).
