Description Of Assignment/Duties

Serves as maintenance mechanic performing work in variety of trades in carpentry, plumbing, painting and mechanical trades. Such trades involving but not limited to maintenance of dam control tower facilities, buildings and structures. Operation of hydraulic systems, electrical equipment, machinery, mechanical tools, use of tractor, backhoe etc. Installation and construction of buildings/structures, as well as modification and repairing of current structures and buildings. Maintenance of water treatment plants requiring filtration processes, electrical work, welding etc. Modify parts, components, or assemblies in the maintenance and repair of various items of installed, dam operating, or mobile equipment and machinery. Install, repair, and maintain high pressure piping systems such as hydraulic and high-pressure air or oil line systems. Use a variety of hand and power shop tools in accomplishing assignments.

Qualifications

  • Able to perform the full range of maintenance tasks requiring the application of journeyman level skills in machinery repair, carpentry, electrical wiring, roofing, plumbing, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair.
  • Have applied a high order of skill to determine reasons for and making corrections to facility (building, structures) mechanical defects and performance problems, including but not limited to basic to complex maintenance/mechanical equipment.
  • Know how to operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects.
  • Competencies Needed For The Position

Physical Effort

  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground.
  • Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections.
  • Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.).
  • Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
