Maintenance Mechanic Structural

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Reading blueprints/instructions and examining structural surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Making on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, setting up safety barriers, and removing/reinstalling fixtures as necessary to complete structural tasks.
  • Preparing structural surfaces for repair or installation by cutting, framing, removing damaged materials, or other needed preparations.
  • Filling cracks, patching holes, and repairing surfaces using appropriate materials (e.g., joint compound, plaster, wood filler, mortar).
  • Making measurements, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, drywall, and other materials using hand and power tools.
  • Installing and repairing structural components such as doors, window frames, flooring, ceilings, and wall structures according to technical instructions.
  • Applying appropriate fasteners, adhesives, and anchors to secure structural components safely.
  • Maintaining an inventory of structural supplies like lumber, drywall, hardware, fasteners, and power tools.
  • Cleaning machines, equipment, and work areas using appropriate safety guidelines and cleaning aids.
  • Reviewing and implementing work orders and assignments.
  • Following safeguards, safety rules, and regulations (such as OSHA guidelines).

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements.
  • Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry for framing, layout, and cutting angles.
  • Ability to safely operate various hand and power tools, including saws, drills, sanders, levels, and pneumatic equipment.

Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of related experience in carpentry, structural maintenance, or facility repair required.
  • Knowledge of structural building materials, framing, and fastening methods.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands.
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary.
  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels.
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.
