Pay
$18.00/hour minimum per Teamsters Contract Bargaining Unit.
Schedule
- Report times: 6:00am to 2:30pm daily
- Daily hours: 8.5 (8 paid)
- Work year: 12 months
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus six (6) months of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent work experience in one (1) or more of the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades; OR,
- Graduation from a technical high school or trade school with a major in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades.
- Note: Additional experience may be substituted for the high school diploma on a year-for-year basis.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid NYS motor vehicle operator's license Class "D"
- Must be able to work from scaffolds, lifts, ladders
- Daily attendance is expected
- Good knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions of construction, mechanical, and facility maintenance trades
- Ability to work from plans, specifications, drawings, and rough sketches
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work with others
- Good hand and eye coordination
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
Responsibilities
- Serve as a General Handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled duties or assists skilled workers in one or more of the building trades (masonry, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, etc.)
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment
- Operate vehicles, powered, or motorized equipment
- Help install or repair wiring & data systems, electrical and mechanical fixtures, equipment, and building components (paneling, drywall, writing surfaces, shelving, ceilings, doors, hardware, windows, flooring, insulation, weather-stripping, and other parts of buildings)
- Repair and maintain equipment and structures
- Work with other trades/groups as assigned
- Paint interior and exterior of buildings, structures, and equipment
- Help install and repair general plumbing equipment (sinks, toilets, eyewash, showers, etc.)
- Assist in metal and carpentry fabrication, repairs, and refinishing
- Assist in cleaning and repairing mechanical equipment (boilers, pumps, heaters, pipelines, valves, and traps)
- Assist with repairs to municipal water and/or sewage systems
- Assist in performing general grounds maintenance work (grading and seeding, mowing, and snow and ice removal)
- Other duties as assigned
All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYSED before employment begins.
