Maintenance Mechanic I/II/III

About the role

Maintenance Mechanic I is an entry-level position at SEARHC, a non-profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska. The role assists higher-level staff in maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and components across various healthcare facilities. Key responsibilities include completing work orders, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing systems, and handling carpentry tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on systems, equipment, and tools as directed by the Facility Manager.
• Schedule and document completed work in the PM program, including collecting necessary data.
• Troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical issues, such as heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Carry out journeyman-level carpentry tasks as requested by the Facility Manager, including concrete work, floor coverings, door installations, cabinet building, wall hanging, ceiling installation, drywall repair, and painting.
• Operate various shop tools, heavy equipment, and forklifts, demonstrating proficiency in using table saws, rip saws, jointers, planers, routers, and other machinery.
• Respond to emergency requests, maintain records, and manage locksmith supplies.
• Maintain parking lots and entrances, including snow plowing, applying non-slip materials, landscaping, removing litter, lawn care, sign maintenance, and stripe painting.
• Identify and track supply needs, order supplies and tools, research costs, and make cost-effective purchase decisions.
• Complete online courses for Lockout Tagout, Safety-10-hour OSHA Competency, and Life Safety 101 within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED – preferred
• Valid driver's license and insurability under SEARHC auto insurance policy
• Complete Lockout Tagout online course within 90 days of hire.
• Complete the eye wash weekly testing competency within 90 days.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, groundskeeping, woodworking, drywall repair, painting, etc.
• Basic working knowledge of mechanical and electrical components.
• Ability to learn codes, standards, regulations, and make basic math calculations.
• Verbal and written communication skills, including email/texting.
• Safe and proficient use of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Ability to work independently and safely in unstable conditions, climb in and out of various vehicles, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required
• Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
• Basic understanding of facility maintenance, groundskeeping, and woodworking.

Skills

• Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical components.
• Proficiency in operating various shop tools and heavy equipment.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently and safely in diverse environments.
