Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial and industrial electrical/electronic systems, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment
- Tests, installation, repair, and maintenance of a variety of electrical equipment, such as generators, ATS, UPS, transformers, switchboards, controllers, door operators, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, IR scans, or other transmission equipment
- Installs and repairs electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in buildings
- Installs conduits and pipes to house electrical wires and cables
- Ensures piping complies with electrical codes
- Installs circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connects wiring to them
- Connects electrical systems to powerlines to provide electricity to the building
- Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation
- Inspects electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed
- Replaces conduit and wiring as needed
- Replaces circuit breakers as needed
- Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces and the workshop
- Solely identify and resolve failures/alarms related to critical building equipment
- Adequately adhere to state and local building regulations
- Complete work orders on time
- Create records of materials used
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
- Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
- Function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
- Use hand tools and power tool
- Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of related experience required
- Completed certified apprenticeship program preferred
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
- Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
