About the Role
Valmont in Steele, AL is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for 2nd or 3rd shift. This role involves performing routine and scheduled maintenance procedures, industrial maintenance across multiple trades, and ensuring all equipment operates properly through regular inspections.
Responsibilities
- Perform industrial maintenance using tools and equipment from trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, electronics, welding, etc.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections throughout the plant to ensure equipment operates properly.
- Install and configure new equipment; dismantle and replace defective or old parts and machines.
- Adjust equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
- Apply working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems (e.g., replacing bearings, seals, repairing forklifts/overhead cranes).
- Troubleshoot electrical systems (480V, 3-phase, 120V, control voltage).
- Recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
- Train to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
- Climb and work from ladders, manlifts, and scissor lifts.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Communicate and interact with coworkers positively.
- Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
- Work self-supervised at times while adhering to safety protocols and wearing all required PPE.
- Establish and reorder priorities as necessary.
- Calculate simple mathematics and read a tape measure accurately.
- Assist in other areas or tasks as needed, demonstrating teamwork in a diverse group.
- Complete projects from start to finish, communicating with the next shift about issues or unfinished maintenance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Mechanically and technically inclined.
- Minimum two years of experience using hand and power tools.
- Computer skills (Word, Outlook).
- Able to be trained and apply training correctly.
- Able to read, write, and follow instructions.
- Able to perform simple mathematics and read a tape measure.
- Self-supervising with the ability to recognize and solve practical problems.

Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, squat, stoop, push, pull, reach, grasp, hold, and carry for extended periods.
- Able to work at heights of 20–25 ft in fall protection gear.
- Must wear required PPE at all times: hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, reflective vest, long sleeves, long pants, steel-toed boots with met guards, face shield, welding helmet, fall protection, and other PPE as required.
- Work environment may be indoors or outdoors depending on the project.
