Maintenance Mechanic

About the role
We are searching for dependable, responsible, and quality-minded individuals who have a history of working safely in a manufacturing environment. This role will conduct effective problem solving and troubleshooting processes to develop corrective actions to repair and maintain all electrical, mechanical, and facility-related functions, equipment, systems, buildings, and/or physical structures in a manner that allows the plant to operate effectively and efficiently. You will work from general instructions from the plant management team and all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor under the supervision of the Plant Engineer.
Pay
The base hourly rate for this position is $37.16.
Schedule
We follow the DuPont Schedule: employees work 12-hour shifts over a 28-day repeat cycle. The schedule includes working four-night shifts, three days off, three-day shifts, one day off, three-night shifts, three days off, four-day shifts, then seven days off.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum of 5 years of verified experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and drawings.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence legibly.
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Experience with machine safety.
- Experience with lockout/tagout.
- Lift truck operations, JLG, etc., and the ability to obtain a license to operate.
Responsibilities
- Be an active participant in the safety process and practice safe work habits at all times.
- Perform mechanical preventative maintenance according to an established schedule on all equipment. Inspect machinery, lubricate and make adjustments or repairs as needed, and take faulty equipment out of operation until repaired.
- Effectively troubleshoot all mechanical equipment to identify issues and take necessary corrective actions to repair, replace, or rebuild.
- Maintain an open and candid working relationship with coworkers from all departments and your immediate supervisor/manager.
- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete the job.
- Create work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, and perform other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records electronically (SAP).
- Inspect and maintain plant buildings and may be required to cast concrete forms and bollards as needed.
- Operate mobile equipment.
- During cleanouts and emergencies, work with maintenance employees to perform any duties necessary to get equipment back into operation in minimum time.
- Maintain the necessary tools for the classification where required and be proficient in their use and care.
- Wear all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask, or respirator.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly at all times.
- Complete all necessary training assignments.
- Perform other related duties as directed, including duties of lower classification.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Work Environment
This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment:
- Requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment.
- The environment is not climate-controlled; employees must work in conditions that may be extremely hot, humid, or cold depending on the operation and season.
- Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven.
- Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes.
- Some working areas contain airborne particles that can irritate the skin or eyes.
- The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection, gloves, head protection, and in certain areas, dust masks or respirators.
