This position is for a Maintenance Mechanic with an educational institution in Gulfport, MS.
About the Role
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all physical plant systems. Reports directly to the Superintendent of Physical Plant and the Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. This position requires multi-craft skills, physical mobility, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift at least 70 lbs. Duties include climbing ladders, working on rooftops, working in confined spaces, and other physically demanding tasks.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direction of the Superintendent of Physical Plant and the Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, performing all duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and other vendors on campus systems.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and charts.
- Complete preventative maintenance on equipment and buildings to college standards as assigned.
- Complete all required maintenance documents as assigned.
- Resolve problems and perform general maintenance in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, welding, mechanics, painting, HVAC, lighting, and irrigation systems.
- Work with all other maintenance personnel as assigned.
- Work on weekends, holidays, evenings/nights, and other hours as required.
- Pull standby duties on rotation.
- Maintain inventory of tools and equipment.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at all times while employed.
- Adhere to all college policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by College Administration.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a maintenance-related field and two years of maintenance experience OR high school diploma and four years of commercial or institutional maintenance experience.
- Experience in one of the following maintenance trades: carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or refrigeration.
- Ability to work overhead, from a ladder, in small spaces, and lift a minimum of 70 lbs. routinely.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate effectively with college personnel at all levels, including appropriate usage of technology for communication purposes.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working with a computerized energy management system.
- Six years of experience in a trade-related field.
- Maintenance-related educational experience: vocational training, state certification, or industrial training.
- Experience with irrigation repairs.
- Experience with programming and repairs of lighting controls.
- Email and computer experience.
