Essential Job Functions
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Train and lead lower-level C and Training Mechanics as needed.
- Perform equipment repairs and overhauls consistent with skill level and assist other mechanics as needed.
- Perform routine chick hatchery equipment maintenance.
- Ensure equipment is operating in a safe, reliable, and optimal manner.
- Troubleshoot and repair as needed to skill level capacity.
- Obtain assistance and direction from Lead person or Supervisor.
- Conduct routine plant checks and observe equipment operation to ensure all are within parameters.
- Make routine maintenance and repair decisions.
- In the event of equipment malfunction, make decisions on what level of contact is needed (i.e., Supervisor, Leadsperson, or Department Supervisor).
Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years industrial maintenance experience, preferably in the food industry.
- All qualifications and requirements of the Mechanic “A” position.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, perform basic math functions, and comprehend equipment manuals and instructions.
- Expertly troubleshoot and have the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Adequate understanding of electronics and PLS’s.
- Familiarity with pumps, gear ratios, and speeds, and operation of hand and power tools.
- Good understanding of electrical controls, motors, relays, and auxiliary equipment.
- Familiarity with salient OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Basic metal fabrication skills and basic mill and lathe knowledge.
- Proficiency in using welding and cutting equipment.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to push, pull, bend, and crouch.
- Able to work on wet concrete floor, walk, and stand for prolonged periods.
- Able to work safely from ladders and in confined spaces.
- Able to work overtime, weekends, and/or times dictated by production requirements/needs.
- Able to work with minimal supervision while planning and directing preventative maintenance activities.
- Pass a criminal background check and drug test.
