Maintenance Mechanic-3rd Shift

Champion Packaging & Distribution Inc., a privately held company with over 30 years of success as a quality household cleaner manufacturer, is seeking a 3rd Shift Maintenance Mechanic for our production facility at 1840 Internationale Parkway, Woodridge, IL. The successful candidate will have a strong electrical and mechanical background.

About the role

The position involves troubleshooting and repair of industrial packaging equipment and facilities support equipment, with a high priority on maintenance and safety. Work will be guided by daily job assignments, prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, facility check sheets, machine manuals, sketches, preventive maintenance sheets, and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
• Tear down equipment, rebuild, and replace defective parts and component units such as motors, gear boxes, clutches, bearings, and electrical units; reassemble and make final equipment adjustments.
• Simplify and improve changeover procedures.
• Assist line workers in the changeover process.
• Set up fill lines for production runs.
• Perform changeovers and setups on assigned equipment and/or lines.
• Repair machinery and related equipment.
• Dismantle defective equipment and install new or repaired parts.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Adhere to and promote all safety policies and procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist supervisor with the operation of all production lines.
• Interact with various levels of senior management.
• Participate in special projects, meetings, and other duties as assigned.
• Work well with all levels of personnel individually or in a team environment.

Requirements

• Three (3) years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
• Ability to provide a set of basic mechanic's hand tools to function.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends when required.
• Able to lift up to 55 pounds, with good visual accuracy and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of electricity, including AC (480-120v) and DC (180-low voltage controls).
• Good troubleshooting skills in electricity and mechanical systems (pneumatic, gearboxes, hydraulic, and cam type).
• Self-starter who works well under fast-paced conditions.
• Able to be on their feet for 80-90% of the shift, walking and responding to calls.
• 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience and knowledge of production equipment mechanical operations in a manufacturing environment.
• The ability to lift and move 40-60 lbs.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• The ability to meet fast-paced goals and standards.

Familiarity with the following equipment is required:

• Carton erectors
• Carton sealers
• Liquid fillers
• Case packers
• Palletizers
• Cappers
• Conveyors
• Labelers

The ideal candidate will also have blow molding experience with either Uniloy or Bekum blowmolders.

Schedule

3rd shift hours: 11:00 P.M. - 7:00 A.M., Monday through Friday. Overtime as needed.
