About the role
The Maintenance Manager coordinates and delegates maintenance for the entire plant (Facility, Packaging, and Production) to ensure equipment and structures operate reliably.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and direction to the maintenance department by managing supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
- Actively manage employees: communicate expectations, address performance, manage attendance, issue disciplinary actions, resolve issues, reduce turnover, and recognize contributions.
- Embrace a safety-conscious attitude; report and investigate all incidents, injuries, and accidents.
- Utilize equipment records for predictive and preventive maintenance; develop and implement maintenance procedures.
- Develop and direct internal maintenance activities and spare parts management to safely achieve budgeted equipment utilization, reliability, and efficiency.
- Coordinate with Packaging and Production departments to schedule downtime and execute major equipment overhauls.
- Collaborate with leadership to prepare and manage the annual operations budget; control spare parts inventory for cost efficiency.
- Drive employee performance through clear directions, expectations, and meaningful feedback.
- Foster a high-performance culture where improvement suggestions are embraced.
- Improve working procedures to enhance productivity while maintaining compliance.
- Participate in training and skill validation of maintenance technicians.
- Support and ensure compliance with Environmental Health & Safety, HR, Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and company policies.
- Engage employees collaboratively and commit to their development.
- Communicate frequently with Plant Manager and/or Plant Engineering Manager to ensure compliance with the maintenance plan.
- Provide regular training, counseling, and feedback to direct reports.
- Actively participate in recruitment, retention, and improvement initiatives (e.g., safety programs, employee training, IT initiatives).
- Ensure direct reports understand, use, and embrace new improvement initiatives.
- Perform all other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, or Engineering from an accredited college/university and five years’ experience in a packaging plant, or ten years’ experience in a manufacturing facility.
- Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, communication, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Self-confidence and maturity to make decisions and solve problems with minimal direction.
- Organized; able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to creatively apply experience, common sense, and strategic perspective to various situations, processes, and people.
- High level of attendance and strong customer service orientation.
- Initiative in learning and performing tasks; ability to work cohesively in a team setting.
- Flexibility regarding changes to assignments and accountabilities.
Work Environment
The position is located in a food processing facility. Thirty-five percent of time is spent on the production floor (loud noise, wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather) and sixty-five percent in an office setting (low to moderate noise). Flexibility with work hours is required to accommodate a continuous production schedule.
