Maintenance Manager

About the role

The Maintenance Manager coordinates and supervises maintenance repairs and preventive/predictive maintenance activities for plant equipment and machinery. This position oversees all maintenance-related employees, site capital expenditures, and plant budget preparation and control.

Responsibilities

• Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
• Establish, communicate, and assign job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for the Maintenance Department.
• Collaborate with other department management on maintenance projects and priorities.
• Review, plan, schedule, and supervise all maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
• Develop and execute major shutdown schedules, including real-time updates and post-shutdown critiques.
• Oversee all aspects of the maintenance department, including performance evaluations and recommendations for merit increases and promotions.
• Obtain, coordinate, and supervise contractor work for specified repairs.
• Meet with vendors regarding new maintenance equipment and supplies.
• Support and actively participate in plant safety and environmental programs.
• Coordinate with plant management on project priorities and schedules.
• Work with the Planner to review, plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance activities.
• Investigate and resolve unusual problems or difficulties in maintenance projects.
• Specify engineering data and solicit competitive pricing for major equipment and parts.
• Coordinate with storeroom personnel on supplies and parts needed for maintenance activities.
• Compile records and data on maintenance projects and prepare reports for management.
• Ensure compliance with plant and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) safety rules and regulations.
• Assist in developing the annual budget and implementing the approved budget.
• Ensure proper training for new and existing department employees.
• Conduct meetings to set maintenance priorities and address environmental issues.
• Collaborate with the Plant Manager on goals, strategic planning, and directives.
• Perform daily plant inspections and discuss maintenance requirements with supervisors.
• Conduct monthly safety meetings and train employees on safety regulations and standards.
• Evaluate safety hazards proactively and investigate accidents.
• Participate in labor contract negotiations and resolve potential grievances with union representatives.
• Review maintenance reports to analyze trends.
• Assist the Plant Manager in preparing annual budgets for company executives.
• Recommend improvements to enhance plant operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• 4-year/Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a cement manufacturing facility with management responsibilities.
• Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, and signs.
• Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills.
• Ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work under general supervision.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead/manage others.
• Knowledge of all plant equipment and machinery and their functions.
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques and repair procedures for industrial equipment, including cement-specific equipment such as kilns, ball mills, roller mills, air separators, and Fuller-Kinyon pumps.
• Knowledge of MSHA safety regulations and EPA environmental regulations.
• Knowledge of welding operations, design, drafting, and construction techniques for various building types.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, enter confined areas, and work in extreme temperatures and dusty environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Avantis (CMMS) software.
• Uses independent judgment in decision-making and problem analysis.
• Works under general supervision; refers to supervisor for policy clarification.
• Active participant and leader in the Maintenance Excellence Process.

Pay

$125,100 - $152,900 per year, eligible for yearly bonus and geographic differential.
