CVR Energy’s Wynnewood refinery is looking for a self-directed Maintenance Instrumentation Journeyman to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair existing instrument and automation systems, install and commission new equipment, and occasionally supervise or train other craftsmen. The role demands a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning in a fast-paced refinery environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties in compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental, and applicable government regulations.
- Provide electrical and instrumentation support to maintain equipment and facilities safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally sound manner.
- Participate in project planning, including drawing updates, P&ID development, and Cause & Effects development.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, pneumatic, and process-control equipment as projects dictate.
- Use hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks.
- Set up, prepare, and inspect worksites at the start of projects and clean up at completion.
- Study blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals to determine correct installation or operation of equipment.
- Communicate regularly with management regarding work progress, concerns, and questions.
- Participate in the preventive-maintenance program for continuous improvement of all machines.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation, including repairs and maintenance performed.
- Work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate of Applied Science degree in Instrumentation or related field (preferred).
- Oklahoma State Journeyman Electrical License (preferred).
- Journeyman Instrument Technician or an official apprenticeship qualification/certification from a nationally recognized apprenticeship training program (preferred).
- NCCER Instrumentation Certification (preferred).
- 3+ years’ industrial instrument experience (required).
- 5+ years’ experience in a refinery environment (preferred).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word (preferred).
- Working knowledge of electrical one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and prints (preferred).
- Experience safely working with hazards and using proper PPE on voltages up to 600 volts (preferred).
- Demonstrated basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principles (required).
- Experience with pressure, level, flow, and temperature sensing instruments, plus final-element equipment such as control valves, actuators, and positioners (required).
- Experience with digital, analog, and pneumatic controls and calibration techniques (required).
- Working knowledge of P&IDs, loop drawings, and cascade loops (required).
- Direct experience with SCADA/PLC/pneumatic controlled loops and the ability to troubleshoot associated problems (preferred).
- Working knowledge of analyzers: Gas Chromatographs, Combustion Analyzers, Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), and Opacity (preferred).
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (Honeywell preferred).
- Familiarity with equipment monitoring: Vibration monitors, Anti-surge controls (preferred).
- Familiarity with Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers / HMIs, Redlion HMIs, and SCADA systems (preferred).
- Familiarity with Ethernet IP, ModBus, and RS-485 communications protocols (preferred).
- Ability to provide and receive directions from others.
- Ability to use a computer for data entry, work-order processing, and other minor tasks (preferred).
- Fluent in English, both oral and written (required).
