Maintenance Intern
About the role
The Maintenance Internship Program is a paid, hands-on learning experience designed to provide exposure to multifamily property maintenance operations. Interns will work alongside experienced maintenance professionals and community leaders while gaining practical experience in building systems, preventive maintenance, apartment turns, resident service requests, and property operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist maintenance team members with routine repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
- Support apartment make-ready and unit turn processes, including painting, cleaning, drywall repairs, and general maintenance.
- Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliance, and carpentry tasks under supervision.
- Maintain community amenities, common areas, grounds, and building exteriors.
- Participate in property inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance projects and capital improvement initiatives.
- Help prepare tools, equipment, and materials for maintenance projects.
- Learn and follow company safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Aid in resident service requests while providing excellent customer service.
- Support administrative tasks related to maintenance operations, including work order updates and documentation.
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional maintenance and operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a trade school, technical program, community college, or accredited college/university preferred.
- Coursework in facilities management, construction management, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, engineering, real estate, or related fields is a plus.
- Previous maintenance, construction, landscaping, facilities, customer service, or related experience preferred but not required.
- Experience using hand tools and basic maintenance equipment is helpful.
- Basic computer proficiency required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
- Ability to learn property management and maintenance software systems.
Learning & Development
Through this internship, participants will gain hands-on experience in multifamily maintenance operations, develop foundational skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and appliance maintenance, learn preventive maintenance practices and property operations procedures, build professional communication and customer service skills, gain exposure to maintenance planning, budgeting, inventory management, and operational best practices, collaborate with experienced maintenance and property management professionals, and explore career opportunities within the multifamily housing industry.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, kneel, reach, and lift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely use tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment with training and supervision.
Attendance & Schedule
Full-time schedule required for the duration of the internship (June 15, 2026 – October 31, 2026).
Consistent attendance and reliability are essential. Some flexibility in hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, may be required to support community operations.
Special Requirements
- Candidates must successfully pass a driver's license background check as part of the hiring process to ensure that all employees who may operate a company vehicle meet necessary safety standards.
