Maintenance Helper, Fleet

About the Role

The Maintenance Helper, Fleet cleans and maintains building appearance and delivers pool cars and shifts City vehicles. This is an hourly position that will work a maximum of 29 hours/week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains building appearance.
• Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots, sidewalks and driveways.
• Performs custodial duties such as cleaning building, sweeping, scrubbing floors and emptying trash.
• Delivers City vehicles to outside vendors.
• Inspects vehicles in pool and performs minor maintenance such as tire repairs, checking fluids, and fueling.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; one to two years related experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and equipment such as snowplow and forklift.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to pass pre-employment fit for duty test.
• Submit to pre-employment drug test.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers, customers and citizens.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Pay

$22.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)
