About the Role
Oversee routine maintenance tasks, manage custodial schedules, assist with new construction projects, and provide emergency response support.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly preventative maintenance inspections of buildings
- Carry out necessary building maintenance and repairs as needed
- Develop and oversee a structured custodial cleaning schedule
- Provide feedback on building status to the Director
- Aid in new construction projects approved by PSREU
- Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, plumbing, countertops, shelves, and other building structures
- Record and track maintenance and repair work, including estimating costs
- Schedule and track routine maintenance tasks such as gutter cleaning, air compressor servicing, pressure washing, parking lot debris removal, landscaping, and ensuring backflow certifications are up-to-date
- Oversee inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and perform price comparisons
- Perform general cleaning duties of buildings or property
- Provide grounds keeping services such as landscaping or tree debris removal
- Supervise labor performing these tasks
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions
- Inspect private contractor work for satisfaction and completion
- Assemble, install, or repair pipe systems or plumbing
- Help in catastrophic events around the state with emergency response for IFAS
- Oversee workers when assigned to teams
- Assist with setting up electronics, meeting rooms, sound systems, and other duties involved in preparing for classes, tours, and events at PSREU
- Perform monthly fuel tank inspections and submit fuel logs for annual inspection
- Perform fuel tank/gauge/pump repair as needed
- Perform building lockdown at the close of the business each day
- Maintain all portable and set generators for emergency power outages
- Perform monthly checks on set generators
- Complete annual Fire Marshal Assessment of all buildings and correct any violations and/or ADA regulations noted during inspection
- Monthly fire marshal inspections
- Responsible for maintaining equipment used in research operations, as well as general upkeep of grounds and buildings in work area
- Operate state and farm vehicles in the performance of job duties
- May be called in for freeze protection weekends, emergency response, holidays, greenhouse checks, and other duties as assigned
- Work in noisy, hot, and dusty conditions at times
- Some travel may be required
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the field or in a related area
- Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- Knowledge of proper use of mechanical and carpentry tools
- Knowledge of building components such as plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, drainage, etc.
- Ability to follow instruction in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Basic computer skills to keep maintenance logs and research repair parts and supplies
- Able to positively communicate both orally and written
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the field or in a related area

Benefits

Pay
Up to $23.16 per hour
Schedule
Monday - Thursday: 10 hour days, 7am to 5:30pm totaling 40 hours a week. Periodic overtime when required to meet emergencies and flexible hours with potential overnight stays.
