Special Requirement for Position: This position requires the candidate possess a Master’s Electrician License from the state of Virginia or a state that is recognized by Virginia for license reciprocity at time of application. Virginia accepts licensure from Alabama, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Candidates not holding a Master’s Electrician License issued by an eligible state will not be considered for interview. (A degree in an electrical-related field is not interchangeable for the Master’s License requirement.)
Responsibilities
- Direct and complete work orders for proper electrical maintenance and calibration of instrumentation in sanitary sewer and water pumping stations.
- Perform troubleshooting, repairs, alterations, and installations to the electrical and electronic systems in sanitary sewer and water pumping stations throughout the City of Virginia Beach in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations.
- Assist in the review of electrical plans/blueprints and specifications for new and alteration of city buildings; prepare and submit electrical specifications for electrical work.
- Direct and complete work orders for new construction and station rehabs in the electrical bureau.
- Diagnose electrical problems and ensure the proper method, tools, equipment, and materials are available to complete the repairs.
- Complete work orders and repair parts in a timely manner.
- Build, program, and maintain PLC programs.
- Troubleshoot radio and cellular communication issues.
- Complete purchasing requests.
- Act as an Inspector’s consultant for pump station projects.
- Ensure crew follows all NEC and OSHA standards to ensure a safe working environment and quality workmanship.
- Complete required paperwork and records to prepare detail reports.
- Provide input on crew member employee performance feedback reports.
- Provide field training to crew members.
- Communicate clearly with the Maintenance Engineer Building Systems/Assistant Superintendent about any issues that arise.
- May temporarily perform supervisory functions in absence of the supervisor.
- Possess/maintain a Virginia Master Electrician license.
- Work in all types of weather conditions and must work nights, weekends, holidays, standby, and emergencies as needed.
Preferences
- Experience and demonstrated working knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical and/or motor control, process control, instrumentation, PLCs, and communication equipment.
- Experience working with water and/or sewer pumping facilities and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical theory and design.
- Experience working with schematics/blueprints.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Codes.
- Supervisory experience.
