Maintenance Engineer I

Entry-level role performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs on facility equipment, building systems, and infrastructure to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient hospital operations.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hospital-specific equipment.
  • Respond promptly to work requests or trouble calls, ensuring tasks are completed without valid written complaints.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facility equipment and systems to identify and address potential problems or safety hazards, ensuring compliance with healthcare codes, regulations, and facility standards.
  • Ensure all maintenance work adheres to Joint Commission standards, local building codes, fire safety regulations, and other healthcare-related compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, materials used, and hours worked.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff to coordinate maintenance work, minimizing disruptions to patient care and hospital operations.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring timely procurement of necessary materials.
  • Provide weekend and emergency staff relief to maintain uninterrupted hospital services.
  • Complete all required documentation of preventive maintenance (PM) and regulatory compliance tasks in accordance with department policies.
  • Report malfunctioning devices or equipment to the supervisor and take immediate action in emergency situations to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Ensure unresolved trouble calls are clearly communicated and handed off for proper follow-up, guaranteeing timely issue resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Technical school or formal training in facility maintenance, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, or related roles in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, and ability to troubleshoot common issues.
  • Understanding of healthcare-related regulations, including Joint Commission standards, OSHA safety regulations, and infection control procedures.
  • Familiarity with medical gas systems, elevators, and emergency power systems is a plus.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with staff, contractors, and team members.

Qualifications

  • Valid and in-state driver’s license required.
  • Licensed Steam Boiler and Refrigeration certification obtained within six months of hire preferred.
  • Georgia: CPI – Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training certification required.
