Position Overview
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for general daily maintenance and operation in all aspects of facility electrical, secondary power, both high and low voltage systems in all facilities. This position assists in monitoring building system operations and performance, and utilizes several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling. The position will require scheduling flexibility and will include some nights and weekends. Overtime is available for this position. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Facility Engineering who is onsite at the venue.
Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Perform electrical and general maintenance as assigned
- Maintain all standards, policies, and procedures as they relate to electrical, plumbing & HVAC systems
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules for all electrical, plumbing & HVAC systems
- Aid in inspections for regulatory compliance
- Aid with the safety program, monitoring compliance with applicable building and safety codes, hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, hazardous materials, etc.
- Provide support to artist tours during load-in and load-out, as assigned by the Senior Director of Facility Engineering
- Represent Walton Arts Center / Walmart AMP at both on and off-site events, as requested.
- Maintain professional working relationships with teammates, fellow staff members from other departments, vendors, patrons, and tenants of leased spaces.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- Maintain security and safety requirements as defined by operations guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- (5) years of building engineer experience as a Journeyman Electrician
- Ability to trouble shoot/analyze problems with equipment and controls
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of construction and building maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration and lighting control equipment and systems
- Knowledge of principles and practices of federal, state and local law, code and regulations applicable to the work, including regulations applicable to safe work practices and procedures
- Highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of business
- Strong organizational skills
- Hands-on repair of all electrical components related to mechanical and plumbing equipment
- Ability to work independently and with initiative
- Ability to effectively contribute to a project team dynamic
- Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality
- Must be physically and mentally fit to respond to emergency situations
- Reading and comprehend blueprints
Education, Training, Traits
- High school diploma or GED required
- Comfortable with consistently adhering to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics and confidentiality
- An on-going desire to learn and improve
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong communications skills and the ability to interact with many different types of people
- Ability to work independently as well as with others to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Possess close vision and visual acuity necessary to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair facility systems
- Remain physically capable of responding to emergency situations throughout the venue
Work Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of facilities or construction experience, primarily working with electrical systems
- Capable of interacting with vendors and public
- Arc Flash Certification
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record required
- Arkansas State Journeyman Electricians license required
Physical Demands
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods on concrete, grass, uneven terrain, and inclined surfaces.
- Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, climb ladders, and ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs throughout the workday.
- Walk throughout the venue, including on slopes of approximately 15 degrees, while carrying tools, equipment, or materials.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Use hands and fingers to safely operate tools, equipment, controls, and machinery requiring manual dexterity.
- Communicate effectively in person and by telephone or radio, including the ability to hear and speak clearly.
- Possess close vision and visual acuity necessary to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair facility systems.
- Remain physically capable of responding to emergency situations throughout the venue.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in office areas, backstage spaces, mechanical rooms, venue grounds, and other indoor and outdoor locations throughout Walton Arts Center and the Walmart AMP.
- The position regularly requires work in an active concert and event environment, including exposure to loud music, production lighting, pyrotechnics, theatrical effects, large crowds, and moving equipment.
- Employees may also be exposed to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, and other seasonal conditions, as well as potentially hazardous chemicals and cleaning solutions.
- This position requires a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, holidays, on call availability to support facility operations and emergency response, and extended shifts of up to 12 hours during concerts, festivals, and other special events.
