About the Role

The Maintenance Tech (MT) performs general maintenance to ensure the hotel’s physical plant meets quality and safety standards. This role involves maintaining the building, equipment, and grounds, performing repairs, and conducting preventative maintenance across all hotel areas.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Sonesta Service in all guest and client interactions following Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards.
• Report hazardous situations, emergencies, or security threats to management.
• Complete work orders, including replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, patching vinyl, painting, and repairing pipelines, toilets, sinks, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
• Monitor and maintain efficiency of equipment and electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, guest access doors, lighting, televisions).
• Refurbish furniture and fixtures, including cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, and windows.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the facility’s exterior, grounds, pool, and exercise/sport facilities (including signage, lighting, and snow removal).
• Ensure security of inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintain the front entrance, parking lot, and street entrance in a clean and presentable manner.
• Prepare and ensure assigned equipment is operational for the following day’s work.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on building interiors/exteriors, guest rooms, laundry/kitchen equipment, HVAC, ventilation, water treatment systems, and swimming pools (if applicable).
• Conduct preventative maintenance as outlined in the PM Works program, including inspections, meter readings, and record-keeping.
• Promote teamwork and quality service through communication with other departments.
• Comply with federal, state, and local health and safety laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Advanced vocational training plus two years of experience in general building maintenance or construction, or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in the extended-stay industry or apartment building maintenance preferred.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, and equipment mechanics.
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking); additional languages beneficial.
• Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, and profit/loss concepts.
• Problem-solving, reasoning, organizational, and training abilities.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility.
• Regular handling of objects and equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Use of commercial chemicals.
• Lifting, carrying, or pulling items up to 75 pounds.
• Work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Pay

Pay rate: $35.10 per hour. Union properties follow contract requirements (Unite Here Local 17).
