About the Role
As a Maintenance Tech (MT) at Sonesta International Hotels, you will perform general maintenance work to ensure the hotel’s physical plant meets quality and safety standards. This role involves maintaining the building, equipment, and grounds, performing repairs, and conducting preventative maintenance across all hotel areas.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Sonesta Service in all guest and client interactions following Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards.
- Report and address hazardous situations, emergencies, or security threats to management.
- Complete work orders, including tasks like replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, patching vinyl, painting, and repairing pipelines, toilets, sinks, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Monitor and maintain efficiency of equipment and electrical systems (e.g., air conditioning controls, guest access doors, television sets, lighting systems) with minor repairs or replacements.
- Refurbish furniture and fixtures, including cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows, and counters.
- Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the facility’s exterior, grounds, pool, and exercise/sport facilities (including property signs, lighting, and snow removal).
- Ensure the security of inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, and televisions.
- Maintain the front entrance, parking lot, and street entrance in a clean and presentable manner.
- Prepare and ensure assigned equipment is operational for the following day’s work.
- Perform maintenance and repair work on the interior and exterior of buildings, hotel rooms, laundry and kitchen/refrigeration equipment, lighting, HVAC, ventilation, water treatment systems, and swimming pools (if applicable).
- Conduct preventive maintenance as outlined in the PM Works program, including inspections of buildings, furniture, bathrooms, guest rooms, and equipment to ensure proper function and efficiency.
- Read and record mechanical and other meters for effective energy management; maintain inspection logs and records of scheduled work and repairs.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Comply with federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and fire regulations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems, including air handlers, compressors, thermostats, and refrigeration units.
- Diagnose and repair plumbing issues, including leaks, clogged drains, fixtures, water heaters, and pipe systems.
- Perform electrical repairs, such as replacing outlets, switches, breakers, and lighting systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Respond promptly to guest and staff maintenance requests while providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed and assist with inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
- Support the Engineering department with special projects, renovations, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Advanced vocational training plus two years of experience in general building maintenance or construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in the hotel industry or apartment building maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, and equipment mechanics.
- Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English; other languages are beneficial.
- Reading and writing abilities to follow daily instructions and read equipment manuals, including safety information.
- Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
- Strong problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Physical demands include frequently standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility; handling objects and equipment; carrying, lifting, or pulling items up to 75 pounds; and standing for long periods.
- Regular use of commercial chemicals.
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
HVAC certification or trade school training is preferred but not required.
Work Environment
This position requires regular interaction with hotel guests, employees, and contractors. The ideal candidate is professional, safety-focused, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Pay
Pay range: $28.44 - $31.60 per hour. Pay rates outlined follow contract requirements.
