Centrally located on Interstate 94 less than 25 miles northwest of Maple Grove and 30 miles southeast of Saint Cloud, Monticello is home to five brick-and-mortar schools and two nature-based facilities serving more than 4,000 students annually. Monticello consistently ranks in the top 50 school districts in the state as measured by a number of organizations and metrics, and performs above the state average in graduation rates, test scores, and early college opportunities.
About the Role
This maintenance position is located at the Middle School with scheduled hours of 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities
Maintenance/Repair
- Perform routine preventative maintenance upkeep on equipment.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with major repairs and maintenance.
- Monitor boiler operation as needed and report any concerns.
- Maintain maintenance records and inventory, as needed.
- Perform routine grounds upkeep including mowing, snow removal, picking up garbage, and keeping entrances clean and free of obstruction, as needed.
Cleaning and Upkeep
- Clean, scrub, strip, seal, wax, buff, vacuum, or sweep floors, stairs, classrooms, gyms, locker rooms, libraries, offices, commons, hallways, restrooms, and other designated areas.
- Respond to emergency cleanup situations.
- Keep the custodial/maintenance room clean and well-maintained.
- Replace lighting as needed.
- Maintain building security by securing exterior doors, testing and resetting fire alarms as necessary, and performing other security tasks.
- Assist in third-party deliveries by unloading school supplies and equipment.
- Restock shelves with cleaning supplies.
- Clean all areas of the building in summer months as directed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

- Considerable ability to follow oral and written instructions, complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Prioritize work and perform duties independently.
- Driven to meet needs with a positive attitude and in a timely manner.
- Effective communication and teaming skills.
- Knowledge of computer and standard applications.

- Experience working with diverse students and families.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75–100 pounds.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $21.05 – $26.93 per the current Custodial Master Agreement 2025–2027.
Schedule
- 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Overtime eligibility: All positions within the Custodial & Maintenance unit are eligible to elect and/or be delegated intermittent overtime assignments.
