About the role

Responsible for performing diversified installation and repair operations as assigned to maintain the physical plant machinery, equipment, and auxiliaries in proper operating condition.

Responsibilities

  • Work from drawings, sketches, machine operation/maintenance manuals, and oral instructions to install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned general maintenance duties.
  • Dismantle units, repair and/or replace defective parts or mechanisms, reassemble, and prove out.
  • Adjust or repair a broad range of machine tools such as vertical and horizontal mills, engine lathes, drill presses, lift trucks, bridge cranes, air compressor and controls, air or electric powered hand tools, air and hydraulic connectors and various other related equipment.
  • Move, rig, level, align and secure machines, equipment, and auxiliaries.
  • Install various attachments such as pumps, ducts, motors, tanks, guards, brackets, and other related accessories.
  • Cut, bend and thread pipe for tubing.
  • Hang pipe, string up wire and cable.
  • Work above floor heights as necessary.
  • Perform ordinary plumbing and pipe fitting with some limitation to maintain air, water, oil, and steam lines.
  • Perform ordinary carpentry and masonry operations as required.
  • Perform ordinary arc and oxyacetylene welding and brazing as related to maintenance requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as needed and as directed by Maintenance Manager.
  • Detect fault operation, diagnose malfunctions, and provide remedy or report to proper supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment and workplace in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Periodically inspect conditions of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes.

  • Use measuring and testing instruments such as ohm meter and amp meter.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift parts weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance; any parts weighing over 50 lbs requires a team lift.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills to interpret engineering drawings and specifications necessary to perform job.
  • Basic math skills including addition/subtraction of fractions and decimal values for determining material, manufacturing, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to read measuring instruments including tape measure, thickness gage, micrometres, and callipers.
  • Electrical Maintenance Certification or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to perform analytical troubleshooting and do complex electrical installation, repair and assembly of electronic equipment, PLC Programming control panels and wiring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in pneumatics, hydraulic machine repair and Total Production Maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hazardous Waste Handler Awareness and satellite accumulation including caps, labelling, dating.
  • Periodically removing satellite waste containers and delivering to less than central accumulation area.
  • Annual RCRA Training including Emergency Coordinator (secondary) refresher, Contingency Plan training, RCR hazardous waste training.
