Maintenance

About the Role

This position involves executing and following up on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs, preventative maintenance, and new installations for machines used in manufacturing metal storage buildings within an industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily work logs and use maintenance software to close out work requests and preventative maintenance (PM) tasks.
• Respond to radio calls regarding facilities issues or machine breakdowns.
• Safely operate a forklift.
• Work with electricity, including high voltage (up to 480 volts), running new lines, troubleshooting machine issues, and changing fuses.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues independently, such as changing gearboxes, sprockets and chains, dies, and punches, which may require lifting from odd angles.
• Troubleshoot and replace hydraulic and pneumatic components, including cylinders, accumulators, and valves.
• Complete facility assignments, including but not limited to: plunging toilets, mopping, shoveling snow, cleaning gutters, cleaning drains, and salting ice.
• Work comfortably and safely at heights.
• Use a multimeter to safely work on electrical projects.
• Familiarity with lock-out-tag-out procedures and a strong understanding of safe practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience operating a caliper, PLC, and troubleshooting abilities.
• Welding accreditation certificate.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field, including a high school diploma or work equivalent.
• Strong electrical and mechanical experience, along with hands-on pneumatic and hydraulic experience.
• Demonstrated ability in utilizing math skills daily.
• Ability to work unsupervised, self-starter attitude, ability to work in a team environment, and handle deadline pressure.
• Must provide own basic hand tools.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for insurance purposes.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear during an eight-hour shift.
• Frequently required to walk, twist, bend, climb or balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Expect to walk briskly 2-5 miles per shift due to the size of the campus and having only one shop area.
• Frequently required to crawl under equipment, climb on top of equipment, balance on equipment, and squeeze into tight spaces (e.g., as small as 3' x 4' x 5').
• Frequently lift over 75 pounds in awkward positions due to equipment configuration and lack of hoists or levers.
• Must be stable climbing up and down ladders multiple times per shift.
• Good dexterity in hands, fingers, and arms to manipulate nuts, bolts, etc., in tight spaces.
• Good flexibility in wrists, fingers, elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, torso, and neck.
• Very good upper body and leg strength is preferred to help prevent injury.
• Must be able to work in hot environments, such as areas where equipment can reach high temperatures in the summer.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
