Maintenance
Pay Rate: $40.23 with a $5,000 sign-on bonus (details available from the hiring manager).
Category/Shift: Hourly, Full-Time (Shift to be determined). Physical location: 4060 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE, Salem, OR 97302.
About the role
The Journeyman Level Mechanic performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the facility’s equipment, including emergency/unscheduled repairs during production and scheduled maintenance during machine service.
Responsibilities
- Perform simple machinist duties and mechanic skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and make adjustments.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities.
- Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
- Use hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report unusual situations to supervision.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
Job Conditions
- Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to equipment and machinery.
- Safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and face shields are required.
- No travel required.
- Workload may be unpredictable with substantial pressure during peak times; critical deadlines require adaptability.
- Disturbances in workflow and irregularities in schedule are expected.
- Extra hours may be required, including weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
Physical Activities
Ability to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Crouch or bend at the knees occasionally to increase visibility.
- Climb up to 60 vertical steps occasionally.
- Stoop or bend at the waist occasionally to increase visibility.
- Reach at arm’s length frequently or overhead occasionally.
- Twist and turn at the neck and trunk.
- Walk frequently on uneven ground.
- Handle and grasp tools and parts continually.
- Communicate by speech and hearing continually.
Visual acuity is needed for close detail work. Mental dexterity is required for independent work, attention to detail, and continuous awareness.
Requirements
- High school degree or GED, or equivalent experience; technical degree or apprenticeship certification preferred.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing production environment; packaging industry experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of prior industrial maintenance experience is highly preferred.
- Willingness to work either available shift, weekends, and overtime as required (sometimes with short notice).
Skills
- Proven track record in safety and quality.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
- Ability to interface with computers and enter data into various software platforms.
- Previous CMMS experience desired.
- Self-directed and self-motivated work performance.
- Ability to follow written instructions and procedures consistently and reliably.
- Professional attitude and good communication skills.
