Maintenance Assistant - Water Division (Engineering & Public Works) part-time
About the role
The water division maintains, rehabs, and repairs over 400 total miles of water main, 5,000 valves, and 5,000 hydrants. This position provides support in making these repairs including but not limited to water main breaks, valve repairs/replacements, hydrant repairs/replacements, b-box repairs, manhole adjustments, water meter repairs/replacements, and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
- Performs a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks, uses simple tools, and carries and wheels heavy material as required.
- Performs minor maintenance and custodial work in the care of village owned buildings, grounds, and facilities.
- Performs shop and yard clean-up and organization.
- Is responsible for the arrangement, location, and proper operation of job-related tools and equipment in the shop/yard environment.
- Assists in processing and filling material requests and distributions of both fleet and public works-related material.
Qualifications
- Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
- A minimum of six months of general maintenance or related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and move 75 pounds frequently.
- Willingness to work manual labor under adverse environmental conditions.
- Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
- Occasionally works at heights/depths of 10 to 60 feet above or below ground.
- Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.
- Subject to inclement weather conditions.
- Subject to fumes and disagreeable odors.
- Subject to extended periods of isolation.
- Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period.
- Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid, and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.
Starting Salary Range
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $28.81 - $32.05 per hour working up to 19 hours per week. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $28.81 - $41.78.
