About the Role
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the care and upkeep of the interior and exterior of the community grounds following the guidelines, policies, and procedures of the community and as directed by the Director of Environmental Services and/or other designee of the Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, clean, and repair all equipment and property as necessary, including:
- Floors (sweeping, dusting, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting)
- Bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, replacing towels, toilet paper, seat covers)
- Walls/ceilings (washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing)
- Stairways, hallways, and elevators (removing dirt, dust, grease, film)
- Keep work areas safe by posting proper signs and removing hazardous objects; use appropriate safety and protective equipment.
- Monitor the overall security of the community, including entry and exit doors.
- Ensure maintenance and storage areas are clean, safe, and organized with chemicals, tools, and paints properly sealed, labeled, and stored.
- Follow established techniques for storing, using, mixing chemicals, and disposing of waste; adhere to PPE policies.
- Address daily work orders, such as replacing light bulbs, repairing resident furniture, bathroom and kitchen repairs, and HVAC filter maintenance.
- Keep all common areas, bathrooms, administration offices, and apartments clean, attractive, and functional.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor plumbing and electrical issues, including wall switches, lighting, cover plates, receptacles, and resident call systems.
- Plan, order, and perform interior/exterior painting and landscaping to ensure grounds are well-kept and attractive.
- Maintain and repair pools/spas and equipment to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepare vacant apartments, including replacing window treatments, painting, caulking, shampooing carpets, and performing electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Environmental Services or Executive Director.
- Assist in emergency situations, such as moving residents, and support other maintenance team members as needed.
- Promote teamwork, open communication, and a positive professional image in accordance with MBK principles and core values.
- Demonstrate a deep commitment to customer service when interacting with residents, team members, and guests.
Requirements
- Age 18 or over, or proper work permit and authorization documentation.
- High school diploma or equivalent (if over 18).
- Background clearances as required by government regulations.
- Complete a health screening and provide negative TB test results (within the last 6 months or within 7 days of employment).
- Valid driver’s license and insurance as required by state for vehicle/van capacity.
- Prior mechanical, troubleshooting, and repair experience preferred; on-the-job training available for candidates with the right attitude.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment.
- Ability to interact effectively with people of different ages and backgrounds.
Physical Demands
- Must be mobile and able to execute the physical demands of the position.
- Must be able to lift and push up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Duties require frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, walking, standing, and sitting.

Pay
$26–$32 per hour.
Schedule
Sunday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM.
