Maintenance Assistant

KETTLER is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Assistant at Palmetto Grove in North Charleston, SC. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong work ethic, a passion for helping people, and a desire to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

About the role

The Maintenance Assistant, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for general maintenance, repairs in apartments and buildings, and responding to resident service requests.

Responsibilities

• Handle multiple residential service requests daily.
• Respond to resident requests for maintenance and service within HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and appliance repair by troubleshooting problems and taking appropriate action to repair or restore service within established quality and time standards; escalate issues to supervisor or outside contractor as needed.
• Participate in all maintenance projects.
• Prepare vacant units for market-ready status through turn-over repairs and improvements.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all property systems.
• Conduct general repair of property grounds, apartments, and building exteriors.
• Demonstrate customer service skills by treating residents and others with respect, addressing resident questions, responding sensitively to complaints, and completing work orders efficiently and urgently.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• EPA/CFC Type I & II certifications preferred—must obtain within 180 days of hire.
• Basic knowledge of appliance, electrical, and plumbing repair.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to live within 30 minutes of the property.
• Outstanding customer service skills with a focus on providing residents with timely and accurate responses.
• Responsibility for after-hours emergency maintenance calls, including nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
• Personal and reliable transportation to respond to on-call emergencies.
• Must carry a cell phone for on-call maintenance duties.
• Ability to use a computer.
• Good English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical ability to walk grounds and apartments, ascend stairs, lift 60 lbs., climb ladders over 10 feet, and perform other general physical activities.
