Maintenance Assistant

About the role

Join our dynamic care team at Oakland Grove Health Care Center in Woonsocket as a Full Time Maintenance Assistant. You will maintain the grounds, facility, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure a successful maintenance program.

Responsibilities

• Recognize hazards to residents or staff safety and take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment according to facility policy and procedures.
• Organize and prioritize maintenance tasks.
• Replace, repair, and purchase items according to facility policy and procedure.
• Plan and implement a preventive maintenance program and document accurately.
• Maintain weather protection against cold, heat, fire, and other hazards.
• Supervise outside contractors.
• Serve on-call for emergency and off-duty hours.
• Perform errands and tasks as required.
• Maintain upkeep of the exterior of the building and grounds in all weather conditions.
• Complete other tasks assigned by the managerial team.

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• General background in repair and maintenance.
• Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of maintenance areas.
• Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel and handle residents based on their current maturity level.
• Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies and misuse of equipment.
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
• Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
• Must possess sufficient mechanical abilities to handle facility maintenance needs with minimal outside contractor use.
