Job Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance and Automation Technician 1 is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting injection molding machines (presses), press robots, end-of-arm-tools (EOAT's), automation cells, auxiliary processing equipment and other equipment as assigned. This role ensures operational uptime by performing preventive maintenance; investigating, diagnosing and performing corrective actions for all machinery, automation and equipment issues; installing and uninstalling equipment as needed; monitoring and adjusting equipment as required. Collaborate with Process Engineering, QA, and Production teams to sustain quality and efficiency.

About the Role

This role requires basic to intermediate proficiency in repairing and maintaining electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, basic to intermediate ability to quickly diagnose, analyze, and resolve equipment failures, ability to perform regular inspections, checks, and updates to prevent equipment downtime, skill in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment, strict adherence to safety regulations, capacity to identify the root causes of issues and implement solutions, precision in inspecting and repairing equipment to prevent future failures, ability to clearly explain technical issues, willingness to suggest process and automation enhancements, and physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 70 lbs., climbing, and working in tight spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, investigate, diagnose and repair faults on injection molding machines, robots, auxiliary processing equipment, automation, (EOAT's), etc.
  • Diagnose and correct issues with robot EOAT alignment, gripper posture, sensor faults, timing, speeds, and positions.
  • Setup, calibrate, and clean vision systems (Sigmax/Keyence/etc.); reimage cameras and adjust lighting for accurate part confirmation.
  • Resolve part detection alarms, miscounts, and runner confirmation errors.
  • Troubleshoot and rectify press, robot, and automation issues arising from job changeovers.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment and systems, including material delivery systems, blenders, thermolators, grinders, hot runner controllers, dryers, etc.
  • Reset drives, replace blown fuses, troubleshoot alarms, repair wiring issues, replace servo drives/motors, diagnose PLC issues.
  • Accurately perform changeovers and set-ups on all machines.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, adjust, or repair electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical components on automated and semi-automated equipment.
  • Log into PLCs to clear hard faults, change timers, or counters.
  • Adjust, modify, or fabricate parts for existing equipment.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in Automation, Mechatronics, or Industrial Maintenance or high school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in injection molding maintenance and automation troubleshooting or 3-5 years of experience in other industrial or automation maintenance.
  • Preferred certifications: Robotics programming, Vision system training, RJG Master Molder.
  • Familiarity with CMMS’s, PLC interfaces, robotics, HMI’s, visions systems, and Microsoft 365 tools.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
