About the role
River Valley Services (RVS), part of the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is seeking a highly organized and proactive Maintainer (Driver/Equipment Operator) to support our Wellness and Recovery Unit in Middletown. In this role, you will safely transport clients to medical, dental, and behavioral health appointments, as well as to agency programs that support recovery, social connection, and overall well-being. You will assist individuals who may have difficulty navigating transportation on their own, ensuring they maintain access to vital care and remain engaged in treatment. Your reliable support will help clients stay connected to essential services while promoting independence and improving their overall quality of life.
Schedule
Part-time, 28 hours/week, First Shift (Monday–Friday):
- Monday: 8:00am to 12:00pm
- Tuesday: 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Wednesday: 8:00am to 12:00pm
- Thursday: 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am to 12:00pm
Location: 351 Silver Street, Middletown, CT
Responsibilities
- Operates a passenger motor vehicle to transport individuals with disabilities and other patients.
- Ensures safety of all passengers during transportation.
- Maintains vehicles in good condition, including cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.
- Keeps records related to vehicles (gas, oil, mileage) and materials delivered.
- Delivers medications, prescriptions, payroll documents, mail, equipment, medical records, groceries, and other items to various locations.
- May pick up and deliver other state vehicles to state facilities.
- Performs some stores functions, including loading and unloading materials, inventory, and record keeping.
- Keeps simple records and prepares reports related to duties.
Requirements
- Any experience and training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual/auditory acuity to perform duties.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weights and work in extreme weather conditions.
- May be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
- Must adhere to Connecticut's Policy for a Drug-Free Workplace.
- A comprehensive medical examination, including a drug screening, will be required upon a conditional offer of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with and providing transportation to individuals with behavioral health and addiction conditions.
- Experience communicating effectively with individuals with behavioral health and addiction conditions.
- Experience communicating effectively with co-workers.
- Experience with basic record keeping, such as logging information.
- Experience creating and maintaining basic reports, such as mileage reports.
- Experience writing incident reports.
