About the role
This role is responsible for tool and service designs within a technical domain that enable business strategies in accordance with architectural governance, standards, and policies. Key responsibilities include creating infrastructure tools and their integration as a service, facilitating deployment of technical solutions by developing templates, playbooks, and automation used during implementation. The role involves improving efficiency in tool and service implementation and maintenance, embracing innovation, and continuous improvement.
The System Automation technical team (LSA) supports the IBM System Automation Z/OS, Automation NETVIEW, and GDPS-CA toolset, including their associated automation processes, programming, and policy database.
Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise and consulting services on a range of technologies, assisting Technical Analysts and Infrastructure Engineers to ensure compliance with enterprise system design and engineering standards.
- Translate business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policies.
- Evaluate reference models, blueprints, and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Develop software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes.
- Conduct on-site evaluations of third-party products being considered for firm adoption.
- Promote an inclusive and healthy working environment and help resolve organizational impediments or blockers.
- Contribute to the creation and selection of functional and non-functional product evaluation requirements within and across domains.
- Configure, maintain, and support IBM System Automation for Z/OS and GDPS-CA technology.
- Demonstrate technical leadership and provide technical knowledge as a team member and individual contributor.
- Develop programs in languages such as REXX and PIPES for automation initiatives.
- Communicate across differing audiences, including technical, managerial, and vendor teams.
- Develop technical solution requirements and lead individual or small team initiatives when required.
- Participate in on-call support.
- Write and maintain documentation and perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience with the Mainframe z/OS operating system.
- Deep knowledge of Mainframe System Automation and Mainframe operations.
- Complex understanding of REXX programming and Pipes Programming experience.
- LPAR experience.
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables with various deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Mainframe REXX programming and PIPES.
- Solid experience with IBM System Automation Z/OS.
- Ability to write and maintain documentation.
- Knowledge of Mainframe z/OS, JCL, TSO, and ISPF.
- Ability to work closely with clients to automate processes and solve client issues.
- Deep knowledge of IBM Utilities (e.g., IEBCOPY, IEBGENER).
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to interface with system programmers, application developers, support teams, software vendors, and management staff.
- This position requires after-hours support and some weekend and holiday hours.
