Mainframe Developer

About the role
We are looking for a Mainframe Developer to support the design, development, testing, maintenance, and production support of critical applications. This is a full-time contract, hybrid position requiring onsite work two days per week.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Develop and modify mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL
- Perform coding, component testing, assembly testing, debugging, and production support activities
- Develop and maintain program specifications and technical documentation
- Conduct unit testing and participate in system and user acceptance testing
- Collaborate with business users and technical teams to ensure successful implementation of solutions
- Support maintenance and enhancement efforts for existing applications
- Participate in database conversion and modernization efforts as needed
- Work under the direction of the Information Technology Office Project Manager or designated representative
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical study
- 5+ years of overall IT and application development experience
- 5+ years of hands-on COBOL coding, testing, and debugging experience
- 5+ years of IBM OS/JCL (MVS) experience
- 5+ years of CICS development, testing, and debugging experience
- 5+ years of IBM DB2 development, testing, and debugging experience
- 5+ years of experience developing technical and user documentation
- 5+ years of experience performing usability testing and participating in system testing with end users
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting stored procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of IDMS to DB2 conversion experience
- 5+ years of IDMS/DC to CICS conversion experience
- Experience with Information Builders FOCUS
- Experience supporting large-scale government or judicial systems
- Experience with legacy system modernization and database migration initiatives
Physical Demands
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
Pay
$50 - $55 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on location, experience, and education.
