About the role
The position involves the daily operations and services of the mailroom at The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries. Key responsibilities include monitoring security, serving as a contingency messenger, and managing various deliveries and pickups.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the Liaison for guests at the loading dock entrance.
- Maintains Mailroom area security.
- Serves as contingency library messenger in the absence of the Lead Library Messenger.
- Must maintain current valid Tennessee driver's license and be able to drive the VU vehicle.
- Follows messenger route as set by Library Administration.
- Maintains a minimum of two daily pedestrian rounds according to the schedule.
- Maintains a minimum of one pedestrian route for Faculty delivery as schedule and weather permits.
- Coordinates mailroom operations to ensure timely and efficient processing and delivery for external pickups, including ILL courier services, U.S. Mail, UPS, and FedEx.
- Maintains flexibility in schedule to aid with urgent requests.
- Prepares itemized USPS documentation for library items sent to Station B.
- Able to answer inquiries regarding incoming and outgoing packages.
- Packages items securely for shipping.
- Tracks and archives records of UPS shipments.
- Creates UPS labels.
- Serves as Better World Books representative.
- Retrieves packed boxes.
- Prints labels.
- Ships and keeps statistics of volumes shipped.
- Distributes packaging material and boxes to all assigned faculty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current valid Tennessee driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of library systems and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
