About the role

The Mail Sorter / Mail Production Operator supports League Industries' mail production and presort operations by sorting, organizing, processing, bundling, labeling, and preparing outgoing mail for postal delivery. This position may operate mail sorting and barcoding equipment, follow job tickets and work orders, verify production accuracy, prepare mail for processing, and maintain the confidentiality and security of mail materials. The employee is expected to work safely, accurately, and efficiently while meeting established production deadlines and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Sort incoming and outgoing mail according to established procedures and production requirements.
  • Prepare letters, packages, trays, tubs, and other mail materials for processing.
  • Operate mail sorting and barcoding equipment as trained and assigned.
  • Load and organize mail into appropriate production equipment.
  • Enter or select required job information and production parameters when operating equipment.
  • Monitor mail-processing jobs for accuracy, completeness, and proper handling.
  • Identify and report damaged, incorrectly sorted, or improperly processed mail.
  • Bundle and organize mail according to established USPS presort guidelines and company procedures.
  • Pack, seal, wrap, label, and prepare mail materials for postal delivery.
  • Apply appropriate tray tags, labels, or other identifying materials as required.
  • Verify that mail has been sorted and processed correctly.
  • Maintain accuracy while working in a high-volume production environment.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, job tickets, work orders, and established production procedures.
  • Complete assigned production tasks within established deadlines.
  • Immediately report production errors, missing materials, equipment concerns, or other issues to the Supervisor or Presort Shift Coordinator.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard all mail and customer information processed through the department.
  • Operate production equipment safely and appropriately after receiving required training.
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic equipment adjustments as assigned and trained.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe mail production work area.
  • Follow all applicable workplace safety, equipment, security, and mail-handling procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, and other League Industries staff.
  • Communicate effectively regarding production status, workload, equipment concerns, and completed assignments.
  • Assist with general production duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position and operational needs of League Industries.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Previous mail sorting, production, warehouse, manufacturing, office support, or related experience is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience operating mail sorting or production equipment is helpful.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Training

The League will provide job-specific training on applicable mail sorting procedures, production equipment, safety requirements, quality standards, and departmental processes.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the work area for portions of the work shift.
  • Repetitively use hands and fingers for sorting, bundling, labeling, and operating equipment controls.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull mail trays, tubs, bundles, and other materials as required by the assignment.
  • Participate in team lifting or use appropriate material-handling assistance when necessary.
  • Read job tickets, labels, instructions, and equipment displays.
  • Hear equipment alerts, verbal instructions, and safety alarms, with reasonable accommodation when appropriate.
  • Safely operate assigned mail-processing equipment after receiving appropriate training.
  • Maintain sufficient manual dexterity and coordination to perform assigned production tasks safely.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a centralized mail production environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical equipment and machine parts.
  • Noise levels may range from moderate to loud due to production equipment.
  • Exposure to paper dust, debris, and odors typical of a mail-processing environment.
  • Occasional outdoor work when loading or unloading mail.
  • Work schedules may include early morning, evening, or weekend hours based on production needs and deadlines.
