Machinist - Part-Time

Overview Of The Position Perform functions assigned in the set up and operation of machine tools applying knowledge of machining methods. Fabricate, modify, or repair precision mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities

• Learn and understand the proper operation of your machine, reporting any problems to Management
• Use and be able to read micrometers and bore gauges
• Center chucks on machine to accept parts for grinding
• Machine indicate or "zero" parts on machines
• Machine parts to the specifications called for on "Travelers"
• Properly lubricate grinding equipment and parts
• Know and understand the dust recovery system and associated safety rules, and the potential exposures to grinding dust and dressing rock dust

Skills

• Must speak, read and write the English language
• Should have basic computer software skills
• Prior work experience in conventional machining (Mill / Lathe) helpful but not required
• Should be able to read blueprints
• Have knowledge of and understand the Control of Non-conforming product
• Have knowledge and understanding of Suspected Unapproved Parts
• Have knowledge and understanding of all safety procedures applicable to the job or jobs being performed
• Have an understanding of how to look up SDS on any chemical they may come in contact with
