The Sanmina Newark, California facility specializes in precision machining and metal fabrication for industrial, semiconductor, clean technology, and oil & gas markets. This role involves setting up, operating, and adjusting tools for manual and CNC machine shop equipment to produce precision metal components.
Responsibilities
- Transfer programs from server to CNC machines using DNC software.
- Set up and operate CNC machines to perform machining functions on metal or plastic work-pieces.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces using hand-tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Perform in-process inspection of parts to ensure compliance with provided drawings.
- Adjust tool and work offsets to maintain part specifications.
- Ensure work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Review program specifications or blueprints to determine machine operations, sequencing, and finished work piece dimensions.
- Monitor machines during operation to detect issues such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust as needed.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
- Lift work pieces to the machine manually or with a hoist/crane.
- Monitor coolant levels.
- Comply with health and safety policies and procedures.
- Set up future jobs while machines are running.
- Write simple programs for CNC control panels.
- Confer with supervisors to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors.
- Sort shop orders to maximize materials utilization and minimize machine setup time.
- Maintain a clean work area by sweeping and wiping down machines.
- Follow 5S procedures for the department.
- Identify and report machine problems to supervisors or maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC machinist on mills or lathes.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good understanding of machining metals and plastics.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret training documents, safety rules, and procedural documents.
- Strong mathematical skills to choose correct methods or formulas for problem-solving.
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems and combine information to form conclusions.

Pay
Annual salary range: $55,000–$70,000. Actual base pay is determined by years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, and skills.
