Machinist II (CNC Mills/Lathe - Weekend Shift)

This position operates multiple moderately complex machinery and CNC machining centers for production parts and fabrication tasks within an assigned area without supervision. The role involves set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of key equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates multiple machines, including manual lathes and mills, CNC lathes and mills, machining centers, and Automatic Lathes in assigned area with limited supervision.
• Performs routine maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning.
• Troubleshoots moderate equipment problems and requests service or repairs as needed.
• Reads and interprets work orders and adjusts equipment and materials accordingly.
• Inspects personal production to achieve and maintain quality standards; may make recommendations for improvement.
• Assists with rework and teaches others how to reduce scrap.
• Actively participates in department continuous improvement efforts, supporting and implementing improvements to processes, programs, tooling, and fixturing.
• Works collaboratively within the team to maintain a neat and organized workstation.
• Achieves and maintains productivity standards, follows all safety guidelines, and maintains acceptable dependability.
• Completes documentation required to comply with policies and procedures.
• Interprets production flow proactively to keep personal production line/area operating efficiently and may coach others.
• Works with Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians to resolve quality concerns and improve existing processes.
• Follows safety guidelines, identifies potential hazards, and initiates corrective action when necessary.
• Actively participates in department, quarterly, and company meetings.
• Trains and mentors less experienced machinists and machine operators on tasks related to manual lathes, mills, and CNC machining centers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of machinist experience, including knowledge of developing methods to machine first-run prototypes, set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of multiple CNC machining centers, Automatic Lathes, and manual mills and lathes.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English, with demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions and troubleshoot problems.
• Must fulfill the minimum qualifications of Machine Operator I, II, and Machinist I.
• Ability to inspect assigned work and the work of others using precision measuring equipment (e.g., micrometers, bore gages, manual or video comparators, CMM, or special equipment).
• Demonstrates effective time and resource management.
• Collaborates with team members to achieve goals and resolve problems.
• Knowledge of tooling and material types used in production, including uncommon and unconventional tools, with the ability to alter tools as needed.
• Ability to interpret blueprints with proficient knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Continuous improvement skills for production and fabrication, including manual lathes, mills, and CNC machining centers.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and ISO procedures.
• Ability to perform math calculations, including decimal/fraction equivalence, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Moderate computer skills and ability to learn and understand ERP systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds routinely and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity to grasp, operate tools, and equipment repetitively.
• Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift.
• Exposure to chemicals, noise, vibration, and/or dust may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and foot protection.
• Ability to wear respiratory protection and comply with OSHA’s respirator use requirements.
